General Rules - Winners Choice is a "Pick Your Poison Format"

  • Player matchups: Home team has the choice of putting up first or passing to the visiting team
  • Winner's choice: Winner of the lag has choice of game - 8 Ball, 9 Ball or 10 Ball - or may choose to break
  • Illegal break: Pass the break to your opponent
    • Missed Rack
    • Missed 1 Ball for 9-ball or 10-ball
    • Fewer than 4 balls to a rail
  • Disturbed ball - If a ball contacted by a player's body, clothing or equipment. It is a foul if:
    • Player disturbs cue ball
    • Player disturbs more than 1 object ball
    • A disturbed ball contacts any ball
    • Player disturbs a ball in motion
    • Cueball contacts a disturbed ball
    • If a player disturbs a ball and no other ball is disturbed, it is the opponent's choice to move the ball back to the original spot, or leave the object ball where it lies. If the opponent is not given the option, it can be considered a foul.
  • Object ball leaves the table: Ball stays down, ball in hand is given to the opponent
  • Time outs: Players A and below are allowed 1 timeout per rack; AA players and above are not alloted any timeouts
  • Time allotment: Players are allowed 45 seconds per shot, which does not include when a player is waiting for someone to move out of their way. Timeouts are a maximum of 60 seconds. Enforcement and tracking of time is the responsibility of the team captains during their respective matches. If a timer is going to be used, it needs to be used for both players during a match.
  • Jumpshots: Jumpshots are allowed if the venue allows jumpshots
  • Start time: 7pm is the start time. Teams are allowed a 15 minute grace period to start the first match. No grace period for matches 2 and 3
  • Makeup matches: Teams must notify League Admin 24 hours prior to match day to compel a makeup match. If the team receives less than 24 hours notice, the opponent has the option of accepting a forfeit. All makeup matches must be completed before the last week of play
  • Rosters: Teams may carry up to 6 players per team. Rosters are frozen at the halfway point of all sessions. A player may be added after the halfway point if their team roster would become less than the minimum needed to play all of their matches for the night.
  • Markers: Use of markers of any kind to help the player aim are not allowed to be used.
  • For any rules not covered here, please refer to the official BCA rules.

8-Ball Rules

  • Racking - No pattern racking is allowed, where you place balls or gaps in certain positions for an advantage. The opponent has the right to protest if certain "patterns" are obviously being used. Rack using the common practice of alternating solids and stripes with two exceptions, 8-ball, and placing a stripe in one rear corner and alternating solid in the other, and that the position of any particular ball is not consistent between racks.
  • Call pocket - all balls
  • Scratch on 8 Ball is loss of game, regardless of whether or not the 8 Ball is pocketed
  • Scratch on the break is ball-in-hand, anywhere
  • 8 on the break, and a scratch on the break is NOT a loss. The 8 ball is spotted, and it is ball-in-hand, anywhere
  • Ball in hand, anywhere, for all other fouls
  • Open after the Break

9-Ball Rules

  • No need to call the 9 ball - pocketing the 9 ball on a legally executed shot is a win
  • If you scratch while sinking the 9-ball, the 9 ball is spotted on the foot spot
  • No Safeties need to be called. Make a ball - continue to shoot. Miss a ball-relinquish the table to your opponent
  • All fouls result in ball-in-hand for the incoming player
  • Push out- Allowed on first shot following the break

10-Ball Rules

  • Racking - 1 ball in the front, 10-ball in the center, 2 and 3 ball in either corner. Improper rack will result in loss of break.
  • Call pocket - all balls - can only call one ball per turn - all fouls ball In hand
  • Player must always contact lowest number ball on table first except on a push out
  • Push out - allowed on first shot following the break
    • Player must notify opponent before the shot
    • Cue ball not required to contact lowest numbered ball first or any object ball
    • No ball required to contact a rail
    • If a ball is pocketed during a push out, it remains down except the 10 which is spotted
    • Incoming Shooter is given Play Option after Push Out - see below
  • Safeties - Are allowed in 10 ball as long as you contact the lowest numbered ball on the table. Inning is over, opponent takes table as it lies
    • Exception: Any ball pocketed on a safety is considered an illegally pocketed ball
  • Illegally pocketed ball
    • Called ball goes in wrong pocket
    • Player misses called ball but pockets another ball
    • Any ball pocketed on a called safety
    • All illegally pocketed balls stay down except the 10 ball. If the 10 ball is illegally pocketed, it is spotted
  • Play option - If player illegally pockets a ball, his opponent may:
    • Accept table as it lies and shoot; OR
    • Pass the shot back to the player who illegally pocketed the ball
